The largest photovoltaic power plant in Central Europe commences operations

A grand opening of the largest photovoltaic power plant in Central, South and Eastern Europe was held in the town Vepřek by Mělník on the 8th of September 2010. The complex puts out an impressive 35 MWp.

The number one position among photovoltaic power plants in the Czech Republic to this day was held by the power plant near Stříbro in the Tachov region with only a one third of the output of 13.6 MWp. The newly constructed complex of 26 blocks near Vepřek currently forms the largest photovoltaic power plant not only in the Czech Republic, but also in Central, Southern and Eastern Europe. At the same time it is the ninth largest photovoltaic power plant in the world.

The new photovoltaic power plant stretches across an area of 82.5 ha, which put into perspective is equal to the size of more than a hundred football fields. As per the obligations to the European Union, starting from 2020 the Czech Republic has to cover 13% of the country’s consumption from alternate sources. The power plant’s 35 MWp output should fully cover the consumption of about thousand households.

The first construction work on the photovoltaic power plant started in spring 2010. The investment required to build the solar power plant by Vepřek totals more than two Billion Crowns. The project was realized by DECCI a.s., which presents its photovoltaic power plants under a single brand name FVE CZECH. The complete construction of the photovoltaic power plant used up 186 960 units of photovoltaic panels PhonoSolar 185 and 190 Wp.

The PhonoSolar photovoltaic panels were selected for this construction of the photovoltaic power plant for their high quality and at the same time excellent price. DECCI a.s. has already used the PhonoSolar photovoltaic panels in the construction of the solar power plant in Smiřice by Hradec Králové. The PhonoSolar photovoltaic solar panels are used at a number of other major photovoltaic power plants in the Czech Republic and abroad, e.g. at FVE Smiřice and Kačice in the Czech Republic, Alcalá de Henares, Cordoba and Toledo in Spain and many other countries.
